The hotel was originally built as a private mansion during the 18th century.
It was expanded under Napoleon III, around 1860, to feature two buildings located on either side of a private patio.
In the beginning of World War II, General Sikorsky, head of the polish government in exile in France, lived here for a few months.
Until the early 60's, the hotel offered its very simple comfort to students from the nearby Fine Arts School (Ecole des Beaux Arts) and to bohemian artists.
Our American friends will be interested to know that the treaty of Independence of the United States was signed in 1783 in the building next door (Hôtel of York, located 56 rue Jacob).
It currently houses a department of the National Foundation for Political Sciences
In 1962, Madame Le Besque and her family became the owners of the hotel. Madame Le Besque is now retired but she still is very present in the life of the hotel with the help of her children.
Up until today, she has brought her influence to every corner of the hotel, making it one of the hidden gems of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
By selecting the Hotel du Danube, you will reside in a Napoleon III intimate setting.
As you enter the hotel, you will be taken over by the flowered chintz of the lobby with carefully selected furniture, original details and an inviting view onto a soft-pink patio where, as soon as the weather allows it, tables are laid to enjoy breakfast or take some rest before going for a stroll around the streets of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Our wish is that each client feels like a special guest.
